Make USB Ports Non Functional In Windows On Any PC With USB Disabler

The most common source of virus on the computers is as ‘un-scanned pen-drive’, we have a habit of scanning the pen drives of our friends but sometimes we just forget that our own pen-drive might have some virus. As soon as you plug-in that hard disk or pen-drive then it copies its virus to your system, while doing that you might see some error message but generally users ignore all the error messages unless their job gets stuck. Most of the times your friends without asking you put their pen drive on your system.

Today we will be reviewing a tool which will help you to save your computer for sure by restricting the pen-drive permissions on your computer. As you can see the screenshot of the tool which clearly mentions that the User-Interface is very simple. It divides the general status of a pen drive on your system into 3 different categories as mentioned below.

  • Normal: This will simply mean that there is no restriction on any of the actions which can be performed by a pen-drive. Tool will not play any role in this category.
  • Read-Only: Under this status of permission, all the pen-drives connected on your system will be in read-only mode and thus you will not be able to copy anything over that pen-drive and this also means that all the documents and other personal files of the user are safe on the computer.
  • Disabled: This status will entirely hide the USB-drives; your computer will not be able to detect any pen-drive connected to your USB ports. It is pretty similar to the USB ports which are blocked on the computer at your work place.

So this tool only let your computer detect the pen-drive when you want it to, this simply means that no one will be able to do any data transfer from your computer using their USB drives.

You can also use another tool named ‘USB Drive Disabler’ which has been already reviewed here, but then in this tool you will have only have 2 options either you can unlock the USB and give the an USB drive full access to the system or you can lock them so they cannot be detected completely or you can also use an application ‘USB Blocker’ reviewed here, which can be used to disable all the USB ports on your system thus protecting it from any of the unknown data transfer through them. Both of these applications are short and portable but when compared with USB Disabler then they lack the only option putting the USB drives in ‘Read Only’ mode.

The size of USB Disabler is 900 KB and it is a portable which has been tested by us on Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate edition. Please let us know if you face any problem while using this tool.

Add Windows Explorer Animations In Windows 7 and 8 With AniExplorer

Today we will be telling you about certain cool animation tricks which you can do with your Windows 7 computer. Actually the tool which we are about to mentioned will not install anything new UI theme on your computer or it will not add anything on your computer rather it will unlock certain animation restriction on your computer which will make the animation look more cooler, but then again as precaution it will decrease the performance of your system. The screenshot of this tool known as ‘Ani-Explorer’ has been mentioned below.

Before you go ahead and download this tool, let me tell you that while testing this every time you click Apply button, it will restart the Windows Explorer (or I should say explorer.exe process) and thus all the opened Windows on your computer will get closed and you will have to open them again. This tool is portable and it is pretty simple to use. Let us go step by step, the first option named as vertical rectangle will reveal the look of the folder in or the files in the windows explorer window in rectangular manner from top to bottom.

Second option is the Horizontal Rectangle which will make all the icons in Windows Explorer to get collected at left of the window and after sometime they will be dragged back to their positions. Position mixes both the previous animations as per the type of view selected for that particular folder and the last option named as ‘Alpha’ will dim the appearance of the folders and the files (it will seem as if they have been disabled or they are hidden).

Till now I have come across only this tool which will unlock the animation restricted in Windows rather adding anything to the computer. You can take help of the video mentioned above, it will definitely help you.

If you still want to play with the UI of Windows 7 with the latest looks of Windows then you can refer this post, which will help you to download a theme installation pack to make your Windows 7 look pretty similar to Windows 8, but if you are already using Windows 8 then let me tell you that this tool can be used on Windows 8 also and if you want to lock more animation restrictions from Windows 8 then I you can download and install Windows 8 ‘bluepoison’, it was developed in order to unlock few feature related to Windows Explorer and Windows task Manager but there are few more reasons to use it.

AniExplorer is a portable tool with a size of 50 Kbs, it has been tested on Windows 7 32-bit and it is expected to run on Windows 8 also as specified by the particulars of the tool. The download pack will come with 2 EXEs for both the versions of OS i.e. 32-bit and 64-bit. Please let us know is you face any problem while using it.

Rename Files In Batch As Per Different Criteria and Condition [Windows]

If you are addicted to download music, videos, seasons daily on your system then I am sure that arranging all the stuff systematically on your computer will be definitely a tedious task for you. Specially, when you download tracks of the same album from different sources or when you download episodes of the same series from different sources, then you will have to rename all of them to a certain criteria followed by you and this involves lots of time especially when you are doing them manually one by one. There are many ways to do it, you can take a help of the tools or you can do them manually but smartly. We will be discussing most of the tools and methods to do these.

One of such Portable tools is WildRename, you can use this tool to create a batch with all the settings option available in the application window and then execute them on a folder. As you can see the screenshot mentioned in the post below where all the major operations performing buttons have been boxed inside a red box. With an icon indicating ‘I’ can be used to change the lowercase names to Upper Case, similarly icon indicating ‘I’ can replace the Upper Case names with lower case names.

You can add or remove any text in between, in the starting or at the end of the names of the file with ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons. Once you click OK to any of the rules confirmed by you, it will be populated in the application window as mention in the screenshot, if you do not want to execute them or if they have been added by mistake then select them and click delete icon on the right of that pane, but if you want to use that particular rule in the future then you can uncheck it and it will not be executed to that folder.

All the setting selected above can be saved so that you can use them again and again, they will be saved in an XML format. Under the column of Starting Directory you will have to select the folder and then the operation will be executed on all the files under that folder. You can select the file under the column of file explorer and then you can see the preview of that filename at the right hand bottom corner.

Its UI is pretty simple that’s why we preferred this tool over the others, you can perform the same and some extra functionalities with the tool named ‘Bulk rename Utility’, as observed from the screenshot it has got pretty complex UI and moreover it is not portable, but on the other hand it will provide you a feature to change the time stamp for when the file was created and modified. You can take a look at the screenshot mentioned below where I have added a prefix as ‘metallica’ and the date on the suffix of the file names.

Apart from using these tools you can also edit the files in a serial pattern by the default procedure of renaming them (available in Windows). Please follow the steps mentioned below:-

Select all the files as mentioned below and right on any of them to go to the context menu.

Then enter the major part of the name as all the other files will have the same ‘major name’ followed by a number as their suffix.

WildRename has been tested on Windows 7 32-bit ultimate edition and it has a size of around 650 KB. Please let us know if you face any problem while any of the methods or tools mentioned above.

All Free Tools To Scan Network Computers

If you are managing any network then you need to know what all IPs are there on your network, what is the name of those computers, MAC address and other piece of information. When I was in college, I came across a tool named as WireShark , it is a very good which can easily tell you about the complete flow of traffic on the network to which you are connected. But then it is a heavy tool and includes much complex functionality which a user might not be interested to use, so it will better if you get enough information about all the system available on the network with a small and a portable tool. You can call this tool as NetBScanner.

You can see the screenshot mentioned above, initially when you will launch this tool for the first time; it will automatically ask you to select the range of IPs which is to be scanned on your network. After doing that you will see the list of systems on your network as mentioned below in the screenshot. You can see information in terms of:-

  • IP Address
  • Computer Name
  • Workgroup
  • MAC Address
  • Network Adapter Company
  • Master Browser

Whenever you want to scan the network just click that green colored Play button and then you will all the systems on that network with all the information described above. If you want to save the information of any computer then just select it in the application window and click the option as mentioned below in the screenshot.

It will pop-up a browser page where you can see and save all the information for that user, you will can do the same if you want to save the information for few selected users, just press ‘Crtl’ key and then click the particular users to be selected. You can also change the format in which MAC address is displayed-by the option mentioned below.

If you still want to retrieve more information about the systems or want to perform certain remote operation to those systems then you can refer to a tool named as LanSpy, which will help you to perform a bunch of operations and retrieve information like ping, Open files, network registry, processes, services and more.

Another tool which can do the same for you (remote operations and detailed information about the system on network) is ‘SoftPerfect network scanner’, you can see the screenshot mentioned above, just press that green play button, the tool will scan the network for all the IP addresses and will put the information in the application window. You can use this tool to establish a remote connection to launch any application on that system to shut that system down or to do any other operation which you can do on your computer. You can also store the information in CSV, HTML, TXT or XML file. Before using this problem you will have to configure the tool as per your requirements by clicking the option named Program option in the screenshot shown above.

Another tool which can be used is ‘Advanced IP Scanner’ which again offers certain remote functionalities but it not as multi-functional as 2 previous tools discussed above. You can take a look at the screenshot mentioned below.

The size of NetBios Scanner is very small and as discussed above, it is portable. The size of the ZIP archive is around 300 KB and it has been tested on Windows 32-bit Ultimate edition, please let us know if you face any problem with any of the application mentioned above.

All Ways To Open Unknown File Format Windows

If you love to download, then it is obvious for you to come across many formats of file daily. Most of the times it happens that the original format of file is hidden and a vague format extension is displayed in the name of the application. Usually, the extensions of the files are not visible because of the default settings done in ‘Folder Options’ and in this case, if you see an EXE file named as ‘ABCXYZ.pdf’, then you will double click it think that it will open in Acrobat Reader as PDF but then some unexpected might happen. So, if you are suspicious about the true format of any newly downloaded file or you came across any new format of file, then it is advisable to use certain tools which will tell you about the exact file type.

This tool as specified above as FileTypeID can identify all formats matching that file, as mentioned above in the screenshot, I used this application for a ‘Thumb.db’ file which is generally found in all the folders of Windows OS systems. This tool showed the result for the composition of the file, by matching it to different formats and then showing the result. Just drag that file, drop it on the application window and then click ‘Analyze’ button, log will be populated. This tool can also open a file by the conventional method of browsing the file by clicking the button available in front of the file-path field. If you want to see the details such as extension, Created On and Modified On dates or more of a file, then click details button (as highlighted below in the screenshot).

There are other tools which can be used to which can be used for the same purpose and they have already been covered. You can refer to a tool named ‘TridNet’ which can identify the format of the file even its extension is missing, but it requires little tedious way of installation. Another tool named ‘Locate Opener’ which is really a versatile tool, as it will initially search the application on your system which can open that unknown format-file/application, if it finds any appropriate application then it will display the exe file of that file to the user or else it will ask the user permission to go online and find the appropriate solution for your file, one of it key feature is that you can access this tool from the context menu of any file on your system.

Another solution to find the file type in the default option available in Windows OS, if there is no application installed on the system which can open the file then it will ask you to go online and search for that application (screenshot mentioned below), you can refer to a post here, which will elaborate more on this and a web based service named ‘filext’. You can also refer to another tool which will help you to identify the application which can open that tool, for finding that application the tool will not open any extra browser to tell you about the application rather it will show you the name and link for that tool in its application window itself, you can find that tool ‘’ named here.

The size of ‘FileTypeID’ is around 8 MBs and it is a portable tool. We have tested this tool on Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate edition, please share any issue occurred while using this tool.
