Among all windows, only Windows 7 and vista provides the option of searching files and folders in your computer with their feature of extended search bar. But, this feature search files by their name only and not by the content or keyword present in them. Only Microsoft Office provides certain features for searching the files by any keyword or word but that is useful for only office files and not all types of files and folders.
So, when we have to search a file or folder by its content, we face a lot of trouble. In solution to this problem, there is a freeware called 7s Doc which search files quickly by content data.
7s Doc is a free search engine tool for searching files located on your computer. Basically, it scans selected directories with your document files and builds search index on files content for further quick search. It also performs text search in files such as DOC, XLS, RTF, TXT, HTM. It is compatible with windows 7, vista, xp, 2008, 2003 and 2000 server.
After installation, the main window will appear like this. To search a document, you must select the search index first. The search index is a special database file with text content of scanned documents. The search Index is created by the independent program – 7s Indexer (x7Si.exe). You can create multiply separated indexes for different directories with your documents. This feature allows you to choose search area and to perform separated search on documents grouped by themes.
To open the 7s indexer, click the ‘Config’ option present on main window. This will open a new window of 7s indexer. Here, each Index profile has unique Profile Name which is used for references.
When you have to add a profile, choose ‘add’ from the toolbar menu which will open a new window. Here, you have to create a profile and fill the options accordingly like this.
Now, the 7s indexer will look like this with your defined index profile.
Now, coming back to the main window and making a search. It is very easy. You just have to specify the word or file which you want to search and also, select the index profile in which you want to search the file and click ‘Search’.
After that, it will show a list of files, that matched your query. The searching is very fast because the program searches data in the active search index without opening real files.
