Windows 7 does not include desktop clean up wizard like XP and Vista, which keep a track of your usage of icons on your desktop and offer you to remove the unused icons in every 60 days by running desktop clean up wizard automatically. CleanDesktop is a free utility which lets you do this in windows 7.
It will scan the desktop icons and let you the unused ones, you can then clean the unused icons to a folder which will move the unused icons to a new folder created on your desktop named Unused Icons or delete them permanently.
