Hosts file is an important file which contains the IP addresses list assigned to a particular Website list in sequential manner. This file may or may not have any IP address list depending on how you use it.

The need for hosts file editing arrives when there is some virus or trojan attack which blocks or redirects certain websites to certain wrong websites.

You can check the lines which do not start with a # symbol in the above file. These lines refer to the lists of IP addresses which are assigned to certain domains. This will help you analyze if everything with the hosts file is fine or there is any malware blocking or redirecting websites.
