Hide Start Button On Taskbar

Start button is the most frequently clicked button in windows but on the other hand some windows users will agree that it takes some valuable desktop space which can be utilized otherwise.

Today, We will tell you how can remove the start button form your desktop and make it invisible from your eyes with a free utility called Start Killer

After removing start button from taskbar you will get more space on the taskbar to store more opened windows and applications.

Let’s see how can you remove the start button from taskbar or in other words make start button invisible on the start menu.

Start Killer not only hides start button but you can also disable start menu completely if you like to just to play a trick on your friend’s computer.

You can set start killer to show or hide the tray icon for the program in system tray and set it to load on windows start up automatically.

In order to hide start button on taskbar you just need run the program and start button will hide automatically.

Hide Name In Start Menu In Windows

Hide Name In Start Menu is another free utility by intelliadmin which lets you hide your name on the windows start menu at the top in windows xp

As Shown in the screenshot above you can see one with user name not hidden in the start menu and the second snapshot does not have the start menu text as username.

There are two methods with which you can remove or hide your name in start menu.

Method 1 : ( Geeky Way )

1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit.msc and press enter

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

3. And add the following dword value: NoUserNameInStartMenu and set it to 1 if it does not exist in the registry.

4. Exit Registry and Reboot your computer

Method 2: ( Using the Free Intelliadmin Utility )

1. Download this utility from here, double click to run it as it does require installation

2. Click on the option which says Name removed from Start Menu

3. You may need to reboot after doing all this.

For those who are noticing the some what delay in my posting frequency I would like reveal, I have recently purchased a new iPhone 3G so was more excited in playing with my new iPhone. But from now on I will be disciplined again and will be posting frequently.

Today, I have come up with three amazing free softwares which help analyse files sizes more deeply and helps you free up your disk space. All these program which I am going to mention will be very helpful to clean the drives which are running out of space.

Let’s discuss about all these programs one by one and have a comparative review among these free tools to free up the disk space.

1. Free Disk Analyser – Disk usage analyser helps you locate some of the largest file on your hard disk which you may not need and delete to free up a good amount of disk space. You can easily locate the large files like photos,video and other hidden files which you can delete.

2. TreeSize Free Version – It is another free software which lets you speed up the hard disk more easily and faster, it will track down the folder size of all the drive which you scan and you can delete any files and folders from the software itself.

Install Google Chrome In Ubuntu

I am actively playing with Ubuntu Intrepid 8.1 installed with dual boot configuration with windows vista pre installed on my hp laptop tx1000.

As by default the you have firefox as the only browser in ubuntu so I thought why not install google chrome on the same, as google chrome is an open source browser which is based on Chromium. The Chromium codebase is the basis for Google’s Chrome browser.

Lets see how can you install google chrome in ubuntu

1. Open Terminal

2. Copy the following command and paste in terminal

wget http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/chromium/cxchromium_0.9.0-1_i386.deb

3. Now, type the following command after complete download of the .deb package from the above source

sudo dpkg -i cxchromium_0.9.0-1_i386.deb

Above command may require root account password to execute and install CrossOver Chromium on ubuntu linux.

Note: CrossOver Chromium is a Mac and Linux port of the open source Chromium web browser

4. Close the terminal windows after installation of google chrome

Faster and quicker downloads in firefox is something which attracts every firefox user, we have already written an article about a firefox add on which lets you speed up downloads in firefox.

Today, we are going to list some of the useful extensions which will further help you to manage downloads in firefox more easily and quickly by providing various useful features, you can install all or some of them as per your requirement.

By using these extensions for firefox you can save lot of your time which you spent managing downloads in firefox.

Let’s discuss about these extensions for firefox one by one.

1. Download Sort – It is most useful extension for downloading in firefox with which you can automatically save downloads to different directories according the the different file extension.

That means you can specify to download images to different folder and other .exe or setup files to a different folder.

2. Download Statusbar – You can view and manage all downloads going on from your firefox Statusbar without accessing the download window.

3. Auto Close Download - Closes the download dialog when the last item is removed from the list. This works on the cleaning up button and even when the downloads are removed individually.

Although you can also set to close download window automatically after completing downloading.

To set the option go to tools >> options >> General Tab

click the option which says Close it when all downloads are finished ( as shown in the image above )

4. Clean And Close - Cleans completed, cancelled and failed downloads from the download list and then closes the download dialog.
