Well it happens with me most of the time because, what ever I download any thing from web I tend to download it to the desktop and then at the end of the day, I categorize my downloads then move them to the different folders, like software downloads , Music etc.

For all these folders like Sangeet , Software Downloads I have shortcuts created on the desktop so just need to drag the files on the shortcut icon to copy the files over that folder.

But what ever you do you can’t move files, they will always be copied if you drag files on the shortcuts icon.

So after coping I have to delete the files from the desktop, all this makes the whole process somewhat unproductive. 

But I found out a solution to this problem using TeraCopy, Let’s see how

The only thing you need to do is to install TeraCopy on your machine. download it from here

As shown in the image above, you need to press mouse right click on the file and then drag it over the shortcut to the folder , or over the folder itself you will get the options like

1. TeraCopy here - select if you want to copy the files

2. TeraMove here - select if you want to move the files.

and other options like copy here , move here and create shortcuts here.

If you want to pretend your self offline to all these applications from where your friends or buddies would be tracking your online offline status , you just need to set a simple option which is available Account Information Section of your yahoo id.

Let see how can check that option which says: Check the box to hide my online status ( ) from other users.

Follow the procedure given below

1. Login to your yahoo mail and click the link options ( above all mails in the right top ).

2. Click Account Information from the links in the sidebar left.

3. Click on the  Edit / Create Profile link in the right sidebar, a new window will open up.

4. You will see a check box which says: "check this box to hide my online status from other users" as shown in the image below.

5. Check this option to hide your online existence on yahoo from your friends. If you check this option there will be nothing on web that can track your yahoo online / offline activity or time.

Let come to the post topic. Today I tried some of popular and on growing adobe air applications like uvLayer, twhirl etc.

Was seeing some of the friends blogger’s sharing there latest articles via twitter as the actual url of the articles were some what longer so every one was using TinyUrl in order to shorten them.

If you don’t  know what is tinyurl?

For your FYI: With TinyURL, you can also make a smaller URL that will work for any page on your site.

Every time I want to make a tinyurl for a page I need to copy the full url from the address bar and paste it in the text box on the tinyurl.com which takes some time to produce the tinyurl for the same.

So, after then I was searching for some simple ways for using tinyurl and I found two plugins one of which works with firefox.

Tiny URL Creator: This extension brings the http://tinyurl.com functionality into your browser itself. It takes a long URL as input, and gives you a short URL to use in it.

There is also another similar add on for Maxthon and Internet Explorer called TinyURL 1.1 which can make the tinyurl for any webpage. download it form here 

Update: 

I just found a another new method to make TinyUrl more faster on the go, but this applies to firefox I guess.

TinyUrl 

HowTo:  Left click on the link above ( TinyUrl ) and drag it to the firefox bookmark toolbar to create a bookmark for making tiny url of any webpage (as explained in the image above).

I always wanted to sync up my firefox on all these locations automatically, including my firefox bookmarks, browser settings ,add ons so I don’t have to configure my firefox at all these places etc.

So. I decided to google out the ways for syncing up my firefox browser with my google account.

Basically there are certain things which needs to be in sync like firefox settings , its bookmarks, browsing history etc.

Let’s cover them one by one

Following are the firefox extensions required in order to sync up your firefox with your google account.

1. Google Browser Sync - It is a Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, browsing history, browser cookies, and saved passwords – across your different computers where you use firefox.

Note: It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions. So, it works restore the opened tabs any where you use firefox but the only precondition is google browser sync extension has to be installed.

But ?

Are you worried of using your google account in firefox ? then don’t worry as this extension is provided by google itself which gives the option of encrypting of all the information you share across all the web browser locations.

Encryption option is checked by default under settings of the extension(as shown in the image above). 

Still if you are not willing to to use this extension but would like to sync up your firefox bookmarks only at all the locations, then some other options are given below.

2. Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer - This is again a firefox extension which allows you to sync up your firefox bookmarks and it will work silently in the background to keep your bookmarks synchronized.

You can also log in to my.foxmarks.com to manage your bookmarks from any computer.

3. Sync up using Microsoft Folder Share - To know more about how can you sync up using Folder Share. See this post on lifehacker here.

As the lunarpages offered to us upgrade our account from basic hosting to vps hosting with an approximate amount of 600$ excluding the cost for moving the data from the server which is 75$ per hour job for them. All these charges forced us to change our web host.

For those who are interested in reading, let me tell you guys the story in detail.

On the weekend( 3 and 4th may ) we decided to move Technix Update which is the largest site of our group, from the shared server on lunarpages , due the repeated warnings from the lunarpages admin team that our account ( which has three sites mobiletipstricks.com , technixupdate.com , troublefixers.com) was using too much resources which is far beyond the acceptable limit in terms of CPU usage, RAM usage and MSQL etc.

Basically this was the first time for both us, to move our blog and we did not know the procedure do’s and don’t, so first we studied across the web for any type of info regarding this, also consulted with some of the friend blogger’s .

Time 12:30 pm 4th may:

We take the blog database backup , and entire public_html folder as we don’t want to take any kind of risk  on Saturday  3rd May in the night.

Time 11:00 am 4th may:

Around this time I talked with Sahil from tricks4fun.com on phone, before purchasing an account on zzhosting.com , then after puchasing the account we were very happy as we were ready with the backup and ready to move all the stuff to the new host as soon as our account got activated.   

Time 3:00 pm 4th may:

Our account on the zzhosting.com got activated , we connected with new ftp account on the server and started restoring the public_html folder as it is, then we imported the database with the phpmyadmin interface, which initially gave some errors as we have not created a blank database, then after some tries we were able to restore the database.

Then it was the final step for us to configure the wp-cofig.php with the new database username and password, then we opened the blog with the temporary url given by the new host.

Time 4:00 pm 4th may:

Technix Update opened successfully but with a 404 page in the posts section, all other sections like sidebar ,latest post , latest comments were successfully displayed was working fine, but there was no post in shown then we think there could be a problem with the single.php of our theme we replaced it but still it does not solve the problem.

Time 7:00 pm 4th may:

We were struggling with the problem which still persisted, then finally we realised our mistake of not changing the dns server entries of the domain name, then modified the dns server entry which will definitely take some time and we were not sure that this will resolve the problem or not.

Time 8:30 pm 4th may:

By this time we were so much disappointed as things has not worked the way we have assumed, we turnoff our system ,our laptops decided to look on this issue later with some expertise help.

We leave for the market to refresh ourselves, we roam there in the market discussing about the issue, then rohit decided to leave after dropping me at my place.

Time 10:00 pm 4th may:

I came home and, I was not able to resist my self from checking the status So, I checked the technixupdate.com and was amazed to see blog was totally redirected to new web host and with the new dns server entries came into effect in 3-4 hours and with all the posts started appearing on the main page.

Finally I was so happy as our work has been fruitful, I called rohit and told him that we are finally successful.

We were able to save so much money which we could have given for the upgrade, and learned a lot after recovering from the issues we had faced while moving the blog.:) 

We were totally layman’s in implementing this but learned a lot, Please let us know your thoughts on this through comments.

Yes, it helps a lot in speeding up your system but key factor is you need to know which process to end in your task manager process list.

Let’s discuss about mdm.exe, and how important is it for windows

What is mdm.exe and Why it is running?

Mdm.exe (i.e Machine Debug Manager), is used by the Windows and Microsoft Developer Studio to provide application debugging. It runs as Machine Debug Manager runs as a service and is loaded when your computer starts.

Note: If you do not use your computer for debugging purposes, you can safely turn off the Machine Debug Manager. 

Follow the procedure below to disable Machine Debug Manager from running at windows startup automatically in Windows XP.

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Go to File Menu >> Tools menu, click Internet Options.

3. Click on Advanced tab, now select the option which says Disable script debugging and Click OK

Note: If you are using Windows 98 or Windows Millennium then you would have to play with registry to stop it.

See the procedure given below to know how?

1. Open Start >> Run or press Window + r.

2. type "regedit" (without quotes) and click OK.

3. Navigate to the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

4. In the right pane, right-click on the key MDM7, select Delete then Click OK

5. close Registry and restart your system to take the changes into effect.

Let me tell you how does it happen.

I used to enqueue some songs from different directory locations ,and issue arises when  accidentally I double click on any .mp3 file due to which all the playlist which I collected in winamp got evaded in seconds and the only songs which remain there is that on which I have accidentally double clicked. It may have happened to you some time if you have used winamp.

Let’s see why this happens and how can we correct it.

According to the default settings in winamp, when ever you double click on any audio file (like .mp3) file it will play keep that file in playlist and erases the other files which exist there.

See the image below to you will see the settings with which you can avoid this problem from occurring.

As shown in the image above you will need to check the settings in winamp preferences under File Types which says Enqueue files on double click in windows explorer.

We hope this small tip would help you if you face the same issue, as after this settings checked you will never lose your precious playlist in winamp.

But I was having a short time to read them they were more than hundreds in numbers, and even after using gmail handy keyboard shortcuts I was not productive enough.

After than I was trying to find out a different way to browse through large number of mails in gmail in some quicker way.

Then, I remembered the google experimental search which I had used some time back to navigate through results in google.

Here comes the key-point that is if you activate google experimental search into your google account , you can automatically use those keyborad shortcuts into gmail if you have gmail on that account.

Let’s see how can you use google experimental shortcuts in gmail   

Follow the steps below

1. Log in to your Gmail account in FireFox or IE7 or any other browser which supports tab.

2. Press Ctrl+T to open new tab and go to the link below:

http://www.google.com/experimental/

3. Browse to the bottom of the page and click the button Join this experiment (as shown in the image below)

Following are the key board shortcuts, for google search and you can use the same keyboard shortcuts for gmail as explained below.

  Key                                                    Action

J                                                Selects the next mail.

K                                               Selects the previous mail.

O                                              Opens the selected mail.

<Enter>                                  Opens the selected mail.

/                                                Puts the cursor in the search box.

<Esc>                                      Removes the cursor from the search box.

What is PicLens?

PicLens is a browser extension or add on which instantly transforms your browser into a full-screen, 3D experience for enjoying photos and videos across the web.

In other words it a different way to view pictures on web  specially the 3d experience and the navigation power it provides is awesome. ( as shown in the image below)

PicLens can be used to view photo’s on various image sharing sites like Flickr, FaceBook, Google Images, Picasa Web Albums etc. It supports almost all the famous browsers including  FireFox , Safari , Internet Explorer etc.

After experiencing Piclens I was curious to see the images stored on my hard disk and got to know that PicLens does not support it. 

Then I tried some tweaks to open pictures on my hard disk with piclens, and suddenly one of them works, I was able to view the pictures in folder on my hard disk with piclens.

Let’s see how can you do it. I made this work on firefox

Follow the procedure below

1. First install piclens extension from here and restart firefox after installation.

2. Press control key + T ( ctrl+T ) to open a new tab.

3. Now drag the folder the folder containing images to newly opened tab in firefox.

4. It will list all the images in the directory, now press the blue play button at the top right of FireFox (as shown in the image below)

5. That’s it, done.

What I wanted to do?

I want to set the keyboard shortcuts for quick launch items in Windows XP same like as it is there in Windows Vista where all the quick launch items can be launched with the hot keys Win + 1 ,Win +2 and so on according to the order they appear.

You can easily implement this tweak on Windows XP too with an application called HotKeyBind.

What is HotKeyBind?

HotKeyBind is a program that lets you use different hotkeys (shortcut key combinations) to do common tasks: opening a web page, launching applications, opening files and opening your quick launch items with hot keys which you can set.

Let’s see how can you do this.

Follow the procedure given below

1. First Download and install HotKeyBind.

2. You will see a gray colored icon in the task bar if it is running ( as shown below)      

3. Double click on this icon a new window will appear ( shown below)

4. Click on the Add button,  and select the option which says  Launch a File >> Executes a Program and Click Ok (shown below)

5. Browse to the target quick launch items folder , path for it would be

<replace with operating system drive letter>:\Documents and Settings\<replace with your windows username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

For Example:

C:\Documents and Settings\zapper\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Note: Make sure the that Show hidden files and folder is set to shown in folder options before browsing to this path.

Other wise copy the path above and paste it in the address bar and drag the quick launch items on the target box.

6. After selecting the shortcut for the program like Gtalk in quick launch items click Ok ( as shown below)

7. A New window will open up with title as Edit Keys , click the checkbox WIN and press any number key. ( as shown below)

As Google talk is the first item in my quick launch after Start button so I have set the shortcut for it as Win +1

8. That’s it Done

Similarly you can set the keyboard shortcut for your other quick launch items.
