Disable, Stop or Block mcGlidHost.exe From Running

One of my friend reported a new executable mcGlidHost.exe running in background with other process under task manager, when I searched for the same I found that this process is safe and belongs to Windows Media Center.

What is mcGlidHost.exe ? 

This file is part of Microsoft® Windows® Operating System. McGlidHost.exe is developed by Microsoft Corporation. It’s a system and hidden file. McGlidHost.exe is usually located in the %WINDOWS% sub-folder and its usual size is 50,688 bytes. This process is Windows Media Center In-band Guide Loader it acts as a background scanner which keeps scanning periodically to update the guides from different channel.

In case if you want to disable this process if you don’t use media center much, follow the procedure below.

1. Open Start Menu >> Run prompt – type regedit and press Enter.

2. Navigate to the following path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\BackgroundScanner

3. Right click and choose New, DWORD. Name the entry "PeriodicScanEnabled" [no quotes] and set the value to 0.

4. Restart the computer

    Still haven’t described what it is or what it does, or WHY the stupid thing keeps trying to phone home when I don’t use WMC and it can’t even run on this computer.
