Google Docs is one of the most widely used services by Google for online document sharing. The service lets you do a lot of things such as creating a document, sharing a document, editing a document etc.
If you are an android user then you will probably be very delighted after hearing that Google has released the official Google Docs app for android. The app will now empower android mobile users to create, access, edit and share documents on the go. The app even has a widget that could be placed on your desktop and which makes the overall function even more convenient.
The process of editing and accessing have been made far simpler by this app since it incorporates a very efficient search engine for finding documents on your account. Besides from accessing, editing and reading online content one can also upload new documents from the phone itself and that too in a very short time.
The widget on the other hand does three important tasks which are:
- Upload photos directly by clicking them from camera
- Quickly jumping from the widget to your starred Google documents
- Sending and creating new text documents
Another interesting feature is the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) which lets the user turn photos into editable Google documents and doing the same is as simple as anything. As seen in the above right hand side image, click on the create new button on the top right corner and on the pop up window select Document from Photo. This would indeed open the camera and then you can take a picture and it will directly go to your documents list.
The OCR technology is still under development and the coming versions will come with amazing features like handwriting recognition, formatting of unformatted text and new creative fonts. In fact the existing photos on your mobile device can also be converted into Google documents which we think, is a very useful feature.
The app is available for free on the android market and supports Android 2.1 and higher versions.
